Menorca is a lovely island. Many people buy property here for investment, rental income, holidays, retirement or as a permanent move. Whatever the reason it is wise to be aware that the Spanish system is probably very different to the one you are used to. Here are some important guidelines:

Familiarise yourself with the Spanish system of property purchase. |

Use a lawyer who speaks your language, who can not only complete all the necessary paperwork, but also advises you through every step. |

Use a competent and well known estate agent. |

Allow an extra 10% of the purchase price to cover taxes and other fees. |

If it is an older property have a survey done. |

Check all debts and bills are paid up to date on the property. |
|
Do not rush into any purchase - think first, and get advice where possible. |
