Cala en Bosch Cala Blanca Los Delfines

Mahón-Maó Alaior Es Mercadal Ferreries Ciutadella

2km west of Ciutadella, clustered around three narrow south facing inlets and surrounded by fields with the typical tiered Menorquín sheep shelters, are Cala’n Blanes and the adjacent Los Delfines.

Cala’n Blanes is a popular urbanization, consisting mainly of attractively laid out villas, apartments and the hotel Cala’n Blanes. The latter is situated at the head of a long deep inlet, with a small beach of  pale sand  and safe bathing. The urbanization merges directly into “Los Delfines” which is entered through a rather ostentatious arch, and is situated round a second deep inlet with a beach of coarse sand, that again offers safe bathing and is ideal for children.

A small gorge, Cala’n Brut, occupies the coastline between the previously mentioned two inlets, and although it has no beach, the inlet at its entrance is almost like a pool. Rocky platforms have been constructed at various heights, which are  well suited to  both sunbathing and diving and are ideal for those who do not like sand in every crevice at the end of the day!

Between them the two urbanizations offer everything a visitor could wish for from a holiday resort. Every amenity is on hand from bouncy castles and play parks to an open air chapel. Bars and restaurants abound catering for every taste from Chinese to the omnipresent burger and chips. Cars are available for hire and so to, for the more actively minded, are bikes. In fact as the road to Ciutadella is relatively flat it is an ideal way when the weather is perhaps cooler, to spend the day cycling to Ciutadella and exploring the ancient town. It certainly makes a pleasant way to work off the excesses of too much good food and drink!

For those who wish to have a less strenuous time there is a land train which tours the resort, offering an opportunity to see what is available, without too much exertion.

Cala’n Blanes and Los Delfines together make a large resort which could so easily have become a twentieth century tourist disaster. Instead they have been thoughtfully developed and easily provide the ingredients for an ideal holiday.
