Horses
With more horses (relative to human population) than anywhere else in Spain, it is not surprising that these animals play such an important part in the social and cultural life of Menorca. Prior to mechanised transport and farming techniques, horses were instrumental in the defence of the island; patrolling the Camí de Cavalls – the bridle path that follows the coast - as well as being essential for fieldwork. Today, you are far more likely to encounter Menorcan horses taking part in one of the equestrian-based leisure activities.
