Getting Around
For many visitors to Menorca, once you’ve stepped outside the airport terminal your first holiday challenge comes with four wheels. So to make sure you don’t have a bumpy ride on Menorca’s roads this summer, here are a few tips for driving on the island.
- Drive on the right.
- Carry your driving licence with you when you’re in the car.
- Take your passport, or a photocopy, with you.
- Children should use the appropriate car or booster seats, use their seat belts, and sit in the back.
- If you need glasses to drive, you must have a spare pair with you.
- Don’t use your phone while driving.
- Don’t drink and drive – the limit’s much lower here than in the UK
- The Guardia Civil police have the right to fine you on the spot. If they do, request an official receipt (un recibo).
- Keep the fluorescent jacket in the car in sight – not in the boot – as you must put it on if you breakdown and step out of the car.
- Pay for a parking ticket in blue spaces; green spaces are for resident permit holders only; don’t park on yellow lines.
