Dining & Gastronomy
Menorca is an appealing island not only for its turquoise beaches, prehistoric monuments or fiestas. Menorca's gastronomy is also part of the whole charm. The island is proud of many exquisite gastronomic treats, such as lobster, mayonnaise or tasty sweets, either prepared according to tradition or following new, modern and creative recipes. Typical Menorcan cuisine is based on ingredients that are widely available locally. Being surrounded by sea, fish and shellfish feature prominently on most menus and local produce includes plenty of onions, garlic, olive oil, tomatoes, potatoes, aubergines and peppers. Restaurants range from simple beach bars where you can sit with the sand between your toes, to the more glamorous waterfront restaurants that line the harbours. Although Menorcan cuisine is typically wholesome and simple, the overall quality and choice of restaurants has improved significantly in recent years and just about any type of food you could wish for is now available.
